Education and Career Guidance
Character and Citizenship Education (CCE), including National Education (NE), and Social and Emotional Learning (SEL), are integral to the holistic development of our students, leading to positive life outcomes.
Education and Career Guidance
At Bendemeer Secondary School, we believe that every child can learn, grow and succeed. Guided by our principles of “Dare to Aspire” and “Strengthen Our Strengths,” we encourage students to recognise their abilities, pursue meaningful goals and realise their fullest potential. We recognise that success takes many forms and provide diverse opportunities for students to develop themselves and contribute meaningfully to society.
In a rapidly changing, highly digitalised and interconnected world, students must be ready to navigate evolving educational and career landscapes. Education and Career Guidance (ECG) supports this by developing self-awareness, self-directedness, adaptability, resilience and a strong sense of purpose.
Our ECG programme adopts a thematic and progressive approach centred on three key questions: “Who am I?”, “Where am I going?” and “How do I get there?” Through customised lessons and authentic experiences, students explore their interests, values and abilities while acquiring the knowledge and competencies needed to plan for their future.
At key stages of their secondary school journey, students receive targeted support through Subject Information and Experience Day, course advising sessions and post-secondary education talks. They also explore different educational options through the Experience ITE Programme, Applied Studies and Experience Programme, industry and institutional visits, junior college tours, and open houses at NAFA and the polytechnics. These opportunities help students understand course offerings, admission requirements, learning environments and possible career directions.
Student Voice and Choice are central to our ECG approach. Where possible, students select programmes that match their interests and goals, enabling them to broaden their perspectives, deepen their understanding of the world of work and take greater ownership of their planning.
A signature feature of our ECG programme is the three-day Work Experience Programme, which provides all Secondary 3 students with authentic workplace exposure. Through placements across a range of industries, students learn about workplace expectations, consider possible occupations and strengthen competencies such as communication, teamwork, adaptability, responsibility and professionalism.
Together, these experiences empower students to make purposeful decisions and grow as Critical Thinkers, Courageous Leaders and Caring Contributors who are confident and prepared for the future.
